This lightweight suit fabric is made of Super 100’s merino worsted wool. It is constructed in a prunelle weave in a plain blue color. Smooth, with a subtle sheen provided by long staple wool fibers, it is designed for lighter suits to be worn in spring/summer.
Wool is a natural fiber clipped from animals such as sheep, goat, camel, llama, alpaca, etc. 100% worsted wool is renowned for its warmth and crease resistance, as well as moisture absorbing properties. One of the softest kinds is the merino wool sheared off merino sheep. Available in a range of weaves, designs and colors, worsted wool fabrics are mostly used for overcoats, jackets, suits, and dresses and are also a popular choice for home textiles.
Suiting fabrics are always in high demand especially when it comes to business wear. Although there are several types of wool one can use for jackets and trousers, merino wool is by far one of the best. It comes from merino sheep that lives in Australia and New Zealand in extreme weather conditions.
Why is merino wool so special?
Wool suiting fabrics are popular both among men and women. They are easily crafted into trousers, jackets, vests, dresses, skirts and even shorts.
Super 100’s wool fabric is a modern standard of wool for an everyday suit. The prefix ‘Super’ indicates the number of times the worsted wool fibre has been twisted. The higher the number - the thinner and smoother the fabric is. At the same time, there is an inverse relationship between the increase in the number of fibre twisting with fabric durability: the worsted wool with the prefix ‘Super 140’s’ and higher has less wear, more prone to wrinkling and draping over your body. Respectively, the worsteds in a range between Super 100’s and Super 130’s cannot boast with that exclusive smoothness, but they are warmer, more wear- and wrinkle resistant, as well as easier to care for.
As a rule of thumb, it is recommended to use Super 100’s wool for everyday wear as a practical option, while keep your suit made of Super 140’s and up to Super 250’s worsted wool for special occasions.
